Knochel, William J. (Bill)
Mr. Knochel 94 passed away Saturday December 14, 2013 at his home with his loving family at his side following a brief illness. He was born in Indiana on June 30, 1919 to the late Jacob & Minnie (Kargas) Knochel. He married Nellie Folcik on August 30, 1946 in Linwood; she preceded him in death on April 10, 2008. He served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army. He played 26 years in the Northeastern Michigan Baseball League and was placed in the Hall of Fame in 2010. Bill enjoyed playing golf at Maple Leaf Golf Course on the Pinconning League from 1963 to 2011 and cooked for all the outings. He was retired from Harrison Piping & Supply Co. of Midland and a member of St. Anne Catholic Church.
He is survived by his children Thomas & Jane Knochel, Marilyn Meylan, Carolyn & Dave Augustyniak, Diane & Don Gorske, and Rodney Knochel; 9 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren and a great great grandchild in January, a special niece Pam LaBourdais; a sister Dorothy Wilczek and a brother Frank Knochel. He was predeceased by 2 brothers Ervin Knochel and Kenneth Knochel, 2 sisters Mary Luckner and Caroline Kedzierski, a step brother Pete and a son in law Gary Meylan. The family would like to extend a special thank you to his caregiver Tamie Bolda.
Funeral Mass will be held Thursday December 19, 2013 at 10 am from St. Anne Church with Rev. Fr. T. J. Fleming and Deacon Michael Arnold followed by Military Honors by the Bay County Veteran Council with private burial in St. Anne Cemetery. Friends may call at the Rivertown Funeral Chapel on Wednesday from 1 to 8 pm and a Vigil Service at 7 pm Wednesday. On Thursday Bill will lie in state at the church from 9 am until time of Mass.
