Gilbert “Chip” Horwath passed away after a long and courageous fight with rectal cancer. He was surrounded by his wife and sons at home in Linwood, MI. on March 7,2019 at the young age of 52. Chip is survived by his wife of 30 years Michelle Kelly Horwath his sons Mark Kelly Horwath, LCPL Tyler Horwath, Seth Horwath and Lorraina Jezak who has always been considered more of a daughter than a niece. His mom Naomi Lauria, Sisters Dee Comtois, Lisa Comtois(Jeff) Steinpres, Rhonda (Marlow) Klopf. Brothers Tony (Laura) Comtois and Alfred (Rhonda) Lauria. Father in law Bud Kelly, and Bill Karbowski, Sister in law Andrea Kelly, Neice Megan Steinpres, Nephew Alex (Monica) Salazar. Nephews Brion (Nicole) Klopf, Dustin (Krista) Duby and Brady Comtois. Neice Jessica Comtois her daughters Samantha and Addison, Nephew Jeremy Comtois his daughter Neena. Chip had many great nieces, nephews and cousins, Aunts and Uncles that he loved very much. Chip is preceded in death by his dad Gilbert Horwath Sr., Step dad Alfred Lauria, his mother in laws Ellen Kelly Karbowski and Jackie Kelly, niece Jennifer Comtois, Grandparents Ted and Nina Scherzer, His best Friends Tom and Joey Broderick and Chris Hunt. Chip was born on 9/5/67 in Tawas Michigan to Gilbert and Naomi Horwath. Chip graduated from Western High School in 1985 and soon after moved to Novi, Michigan and married his High School sweetheart, Michelle Kelly. While continuing his education he started career as a machinist/programmer at Panther Machine where he continued to work until they decided to move back home and help care for family. After moving back to the Bay City area, Chip began working at a Underground Utility Company and continued until he wasn’t physically able to do so. He took pride in his work, was a loyal and dedicated Supervisor for Creek Enterprise. Owners David, Scott, Trent and Jason became more than just the company he worked for, they became family. Chip was a dedicated employee, a devoted dad, loyal husband, trusted friend and beloved by all his family. He lived for his boys and attended any and all school events possible. He loved to ice fish and ride his snow machine (the faster the better).
A funeral is scheduled for March 16, 2019 visitation is from 10-2, with service directly following at Rivertown Funeral Home in Kawkawlin MI. A Luncheon will be at Kawkawlin Community Church directly following services. Pastor Aaron will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Chips life. In lieu of flowers, donations for help with funeral expenses would greatly appreciated. The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice and their staff especially Elizabeth and Jennifer for their efforts, care, and dedication to Chip and his family.
