Obituary for Walter A. Johnson

Walter A. Johnson
Rose City, Michigan
Formerly of Waterford, Michigan

Walt A. Johnson, passed away December 6th, 2018, after a brief battle with a glioblastoma multiforme brain tumor. He spent his last weeks at The Villa of Rose City, well cared for and being able to socialize with the many residents until he took a turn for the worse the week before his passing. In November Walt was recognized for his military service at a special ceremony for Veterans at his nursing home. Lianne and Greg Wendling attended the ceremony.
Born to Walter H. Johnson and Lise Leblanc (deceased July, 2015) in Windsor, Ontario Canada. He moved with his family to Bloomfield Hills in Oakland County in 1964. He attended St. Hugo of the Hills Elementary followed by one year at Brother Rice, where he was on the Chess Team. He went to Lahser High School for 10th to 12th grade, when he graduated in 1978. After High School he joined the U.S. Air Force where he served as a mechanic.
He continued working as an auto mechanic for most of his career except for a few years he spent as a Chef and working at the family business; Johnson’s Ceramics for 5 years in Auburn, Hills. He attended Oakland University briefly.
He spent his last five years working as a Service Advisor for Royal Oak Ford. He earned a special award last year for "Employee Excellence Level 3 Achiever," and was awarded a special picture of Henry Ford. His Co-workers explained that this was a great honor, difficult to earn and took a tremendous amount of effort on Walt's part. Walt enjoyed going to the auto races and shopping, watching movies, playing video games and spending time with Jennifer and their dog Mosby. He was also an avid photographer and enjoyed maintaining a large saltwater fish tank. When he was younger, he enjoyed spending time with his Canadian cousins. He was a member of the Serenity Club in Waterford, where he lived since 1995.

He is survived by his only child Jennifer Lynn, 21. Siblings Lianne (Greg) Wendling of Pinconning and Linda Smith (Andy) of Ortonville. Brother-in-law Greg Janes of Oakland County. Nephews and niece: Travis (Katie) Johns, Levi Wendling, Cody (Darcy) Wendling, Nick Wendling and Cheyenne Janes. Great nephew and niece: Carter and Adalynn Johns.

At his daughter's request, there will be a Memorial / Celebration of Life in the spring in Oakland County.
